Signing With an Agency

Getting your property onto the market requires a few formal steps, including signing an agency agreement and verifying your identity.

Before we can begin taking photographs or bringing buyers through your home, New Zealand law requires a few administrative tasks to be completed.

The Agency Agreement

An Agency Agreement is a legally binding contract between you (the vendor) and Ray White Whangārei. It outlines our authority to market and sell your property. This document will clearly detail the agreed commission rate, the estimated marketing budget, the duration of the agency, and the chosen method of sale. Your consultant will walk you through this document step-by-step to ensure you are completely comfortable before signing.

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Requirements

Under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009, real estate agents must verify the identity of their clients before conducting business. This is a mandatory legal requirement across New Zealand.

To complete this process quickly, you will need to provide:

  • Proof of Identity: A valid passport, or a New Zealand Driver Licence paired with a bank card or birth certificate.
  • Proof of Address: A recent utility bill, bank statement, or council rates notice issued within the last three months.
  • Trust or Company Documents: If the property is owned by a trust or a company, additional documentation regarding trustees, directors, and ultimate beneficial owners will be required.

Your sales consultant will advise you exactly what is needed for your specific situation.
