Growing up rurally in Ruatangata, Northland, farming was always going to be the natural path for Troy Barrell. From an early age, his competitive spirit was shaped by a sporting family - supporting his father on the rugby sidelines and later representing Northland in hockey throughout his years at Kamo Intermediate and Kamo High School.

After finishing school, Troy pursued his passion for agriculture at Lincoln University, graduating with a Diploma in Agriculture. He has since gone on to build over 15 years of hands-on farming experience across New Zealand, Canada, and Australia. His career has spanned sheep, beef, dairy, and cropping operations, including managing properties of more than 1,200 hectares and overseeing up to 8,000 stock units. Troy has been deeply involved in farm conversions, irrigation design, breeding programmes, financial reporting, and the training and mentoring of cadets and younger staff.

Known for being personable, driven, and down-to-earth, Troy prides himself on building strong and honest relationships with clients. He brings energy, integrity, and a strong work ethic to everything he does, alongside an ability to think outside the box and adapt to any farming business quickly. His practical knowledge, combined with leadership experience and attention to detail, set him apart in both farming and real estate.

Outside of work, Troy is a keen outdoorsman. From the Three Kings Islands to Stewart Island, he has hunted, fished, hiked, and dived - making the most of New Zealand’s great outdoors. For him, Northland will always be home, and returning to the region has allowed him to once again enjoy both the rural lifestyle and the stunning coastlines on his doorstep.

Troy’s goal in real estate is to support clients through one of the biggest business decisions they will make - helping ensure the process is both successful and as straightforward and enjoyable as possible.
